Being present

This weekend has helped me a lot to stay present.

I finally realise that time is a great gift.

I’ve always been rather impatient, enjoying what I’m doing if it’s fun, and waiting for the time to pass when I do something less pleasant.

This weekend has taught me to appreciate the present moment, whatever I am doing.

I tried, successfully, to appreciate each activity, meal, moment, and not be waiting for something better.

This is a small change, but quite profound.

My spiritual guru, Stephanie Dowrick, reminds me ‘Try not to create a hierarchy of tasks. Treat each task with equal care and attention’.

What a revalation!

YFGM Leicester

It was fab to go to Leicester and re-connect with Young Quakers. 🙂

It reminded me of what I love about the Quakers, and being part of a spiritual community.

What I am most grateful for:

  • The passion of all the members, and their commitment to self-growth and change
  • The values and strengths people there show- compassion, caring, trust, faith, hope, love and a lot more
  • I can truly be myself with people there- including being honest about my past problems, and that I am in 12-step recovery
  • Being able to talk honestly and know that I can talk deeply about a range of subjects
  • Seeing spiritual growth in others

Thanks everyone for a fab weekend. 🙂
